Despite the launch of the Xbox 360 and a new version of its server software, Microsoft's profits grew a mere 3%. In fact, the Xbox's launch actually hurt the bottom line, rather than adding to it, since the costs of producing and marketing the console increased Microsoft's home entertainment losses from $485 million in 2005 to $1.3 billion last year.
