Pimco All-Asset (PASDX)
1-year return: 5.1%
5-year return: 7.2%
Expense ratio: 1.46%
ETF alternative: SPDR Barclays Capital TIPS (IPE)

Finally, there's a unique fund of funds that aims to offset inflation. Pimco All-Asset is like a pizza with all the toppings: It has stocks, bonds, real estate, commodities, and more. The goal is to beat the consumer price index by 5%. Today more than a quarter of the fund is invested in emerging-markets debt; that's also a commodities play, given that such materials make up the bulk of exports in developing countries. Another quarter is in Treasury inflation-protected securities, or TIPS. For an ETF equivalent of that component, try SPDR Barclays Capital TIPS.
